The Araguaia Project, owned by Horizonte Minerals, is located in Pará, 760 km from Belém (Brazil). The project encompasses an open-pit mining operation designed to extract nickel laterite from a Mineral Reserve of 27.5 Mt and a Mineral Resource of 119 Mt.
The facility’s projected annual output is 52,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) of ferronickel (FeNi) over a 31-year mine life. The metallurgical flowsheet utilizes a single-line Rotary Kiln-Electric Furnace (RKEF) process for the extraction of FeNi from laterite ore.
Key operational metrics include:
- Throughput Capacity: 900,000 dry metric tonnes of ore per year.
- Metal Yield: Approximately 15 ktpa of contained nickel.
The processing plant will feature a comprehensive circuit, including:
- Primary and secondary crushing stations.
- Feed homogenization systems.
- RKEF production line equipped with a rotary dryer.
- Tertiary crushing and dry feed storage.
- Reduction kilns and an electric smelting furnace.
- Ladle refining and granulation systems.
- FeNi dryer/classifier units.
- Dedicated metal storage and shipping facilities.
The final ferronickel product will be transported via road to the Port of Vila do Conde for international export.
